Kings Ripton Parish Council Chairman’s Report 2012/2013

At the Annual Parish Meeting held on 8th May for the local goverment year 2012/2013, Councillor Mike Toates, Chairman, presented the following report.

‘The end of the year is also the end of an area, I will expand later.
This year Karen Martin stood down from the Council and Cllr Mark Joyce intends to stand down after this very meeting. Karen used to perform the important tasking of attending the Neighbourhood Forum meetings which will shortly transform into a more focused and high profile Local Joint Committee. Karen’s input to the website will hopefully continue as membership is open to non Council members. Mark has been and hopefully will remain a most useful member of the village in helping to plant trees, paint and repair the phone box site and fix the village green bench and work on the bus shelter. Thank you to Karen and Mark. Continue reading

LOCAL LEADERS FOR LONDON 2012

Could you inspire neighbours to hold an Olympic party, encourage friends and family to celebrate the passing of the Torch Relay or hold a sports quiz? If so, then take up the challenge of being an Olympic Local Leader this summer.

The London 2012 Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) are looking for volunteers to come forward and be the nation’s organisers, planners and doers as the nation gets ready for the Games.

Signing up to be a ‘Local Leader’ is easy – just go towww.london2012.com/localleaders which is full of information and ideas.

Councillor Martin Curtis, who leads on the Olympics at Cambridgeshire County Council, said: “Over the last few months, lots of people who have been excited by London 2012 have asked what they can do to get involved and organise events – the ‘Local Leader’ campaign is geared up to harness this enthusiasm. Signing up couldn’t be easier and the Olympic organisers will have put together a wide range of resources to help. London 2012 is going to be a fantastic summer of culture and sport so as a ‘Local Leader’ you can be at the heart of activities in your local community. So if you are someone who is good at organising things, has a strong sense of community spirit and above all can make stuff happen then you would be an ideal candidate.Continue reading

News about new care and support service to maintain independence

Re-ablement

Being independent following an operation or illness

If you or someone you care for requires social care support following an illness or operation, this would traditionally have been provided by a care assistant providing direct care to the person in need.

Since September 2010 a new service, re-ablement, has been providing support to enable older people who have poor physical or mental health following illness or an operation to live in their own homes.

Re-ablement programmes can last for as little as a few days and generally don’t exceed six weeks. The ethos of re-ablement is to encourage people to do things for themselves rather than having things done for them. There is no charge to the individual as long as they are participating in the programme.

Re-ablement is now being offered to a wider client group including new service users with a physical disability and new occupational therapy referrals. Future development of the service will look at assisting older people who already have a care package but due to illness or physical issues may now require a higher level of
support.

You can find out more about re-ablement at www.cambridgeshire.gov.uk/social
