The Queens Diamond Jubilee Village Event 2nd June 2012

A very positive meeting was held with reference to this on 4th October, thanks to all who attended. In outline it has been decided to hold the event on 2nd June (Saturday). The venue will be Roy Colletts Barn at Manor Farm.

It is hoped that amongst any other ideas you may have that there will be: fancy dress (both children and adults), races – again for everyone, music all afternoon, pig roast with salads etc + dessert, barn dance in the evening and maybe a later evening barbecue. It is also hoped
to build and light a beacon.

At the present time all these things are in outline and a further meeting will be held in January. In the meantime pricing of music and pig roast etc will be sought, but, what we really need is to know what support we are likely to get for the event. It is a long way off and of course nobody can definitely commit but just so that we have a rough idea of numbers please contact me on either 773301 or dianejenkins27@btinternet.com

Friends and family are welcome. Cost £5 for adults and £2 for children under 16. Tickets to be bought in advance.

This event will be subsidised by the Parish Council.

The Gardening Club Trip to Kew Gardens

The Garden Club organised a coach trip on June 21 to Kew Gardens in London.  We had a rain free day to wander around the gardens and green houses though the huge scale of Kew meant that we did not see everything.  It was interesting to see one of the original plants from the Cyclades species which was planted when the development of Kew began around the 17th century!   The Xstrata Tree Top Walkway was a new addition from our last visit – it was high and only for the brave and fit as the lift was out of order!  We had good journeys both ways and arrived home at 6.30 completely walked out! but we all had a very enjoyable day.

WI BBQ

WI BBQ held on 18 June

A WI BBQ was held at Kings Ripton village hall on 18 June attended by about 35 , Tony and Alan braved the elements protected by a huge umbrella in order to cook the BBQ.  The WI ladies provided a selection of salads and delicious puddings.   Rev Brenda entertained with some excellent fiddle music and was accompanied by 2 sea cadets, Rebecca and Ciara for a sailors hornpipe dance.  A raffle with a very nice selection of prizes supplemented the evening and the WI team lead by Valerie can be pleased with a superb evening.
